South Padre Marathon and Half Marathon Volunteer Information

Who will benefit from my volunteer time and energy at the S. Padre Island Marathon and Half Marathon?
Runners, staff, and spectators will all benefit from volunteers at the S. Padre Marathon event. Volunteers are the key to success and the backbone of making the event a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
What type of volunteer roles are available?
We have many different volunteer opportunities available. Volunteers will be needed for: pre-event set up, setting up and working at the expo, and numerous roles during the race and along the course. Different volunteer shifts are available during the expo, and race day.
How do I sign up to volunteer?
Easy! Go to to register to volunteer for the S. Padre Marathon & Half Marathon, including all pre-race events.

Can I count my volunteer time for my school or other community program?
This is at the discretion of the organization or community program, as each program operates differently. We will gladly issue a Volunteer Certificate to any volunteer that fulfills their registered volunteer responsibility.
Are volunteer opportunities available on days other than race day?
Yes, volunteers will be needed before the event and after for set-up and break-down of the expo, race, and post-race events. Volunteers will also be needed on Sunday, November 15th, for the Mini Marathon
Volunteer Shift Details and Race Details
Volunteers will be contacted ahead of their shift regarding details of their station or course assignment. Each volunteer will receive an event lanyard that will have emergency information, contact details for the day of the race, and general race info.
Prior to the event, we will send out parking details, directions, maps and contact info for all volunteers.
Volunteer Goodies
All volunteer will receive a Volunteer shirt that must be worn on the day of the event. We advise that volunteers dress in layers, as it may be cooler in the morning and warm up as the day goes on. Volunteers will also receive an event lanyard with race information as well as their assigned station details. Snacks and water will be available to volunteers.
Is there a minimum age for volunteers?
Volunteer ages are specified on the Volunteer Registration site. Minimum age differs depending on location and/or station.
